Bau!Haus
“Whom and what do I touch when I touch my dog? How is becoming with a practice of becoming worldly? When species meet, the question of how to inherit histories is pressing, and how to get on together is at stake. Because I become with dogs, I am drawn into the multispecies knots that they are tied into and that they retie by their reciprocal action.” Donna Haraway

Preface
Bau!Haus is a reflection on what happens around a chair—not just on top, but also behind, at its sides, and underneath. Designed as an interactive element for both humans and animals, particularly those who live with dogs, the chair allows people to sit while simultaneously inviting their animal counterpart to walk under and rest beneath it. The concept builds on the common habit of dogs sitting under chairs when their humans sit above. The design is inspired by the architecture of a tunnel, as a way to suggest the possibility for the chair to be traversed and used as a shelter.
Design
Bau!Haus is constructed from four laser-cut, folded, and brushed aluminum components. Each aluminum part has a thickness of 4 mm. For improved stability, the parts are secured together with aluminum rivets. Bau!Haus can be ordered with a separate leather saddle, which can be placed on top of the seat for improved comfort during long multispecies encounters.
