Concept

In a world dominated by mobile phones, instant messaging, and digital coms, there is something inexplicably rewarding about receiving tangible, handwritten messages, intentionally produced with care. The SMnS door handles series seeks to bridge this gap, transforming barriers such as doors into a communication carriers. SMnS stands for “Short Message, non-Superfluous,” a reminder to embrace a simplified, carefull approach to interhuman connection, in an age when digital technologies overshadow physical interaction.

Design

The two products in this series provides distinct takes on the concept. SMnS evokes the image of a message in a bottle — a timeless, intimate form of communication. Produced out of casted aluminium, it is designed around a conic form that helps containing paper messages. SMnS Clip features instead a powder-coated steel built-in clip, allowing to attach messages directly to the handle, reinforcing the communication act as both purposeful and tangible. The designs invite us to rethink the way we engage with our surroundings, rethinking everyday objects as proponents of interaction.
